Still, by way of introduction, the specificity with which the SCR addresses the particular question of safeguarding the MBS from injury can be appreciated both in itself and also as a part of the larger constellation of the church’s official prescriptions.

Nullo 2-3

Nullo 3 reemphasizes the safest possible keeping of the Holy Eucharist and its entire preservation from injury of any kind as the purpose of the instruction. It characterizes this end as “so noble and so desirable.” It adds that faithfulness in the observing of the Church’s precepts are truly conducive to this purpose.

The matter of reserving the MBS prompts two initial requirements from the Church which bind “sub gravi.” The first is “someone to take care of it.” The second is the weekly celebration of Mass in the place. Of these two requirements, while there may be dispensation for the latter to occur “fortnightly,” there is never any dispensation from the requirement of careful custody. Nullo 3 then cites in a footnote the 1881 SRC Decree urging the bishop of Altona that he guard the MBS with greater care.

Then, by way of further introduction, reciting the elements of the already above mentioned Canon 1269, Nullo outlines three things especially to be kept in mind.
