Nullo 3

3/12/2021

Memmi, "Payment"

Nullo 3 concludes by outlining the three items which the main substance of the remainder of the instruction will regard: 1) the immovability & thorough closure of the tabernacle; 2) its diligent guarding so as to exclude all profanation; 3) the careful custody of its key.

[Incidentally, why summarize and comment when guys can just read it for themselves? For one thing, it’s not clear that guys in fact do read it for themselves. Guys may need a hand with seeing how this old chestnut of a disciplinary instruction is distinct and makes any difference to them compared with anything else that has come out of Rome in the last two thousand years]

Nullo 4

Concerning the immovability of the tabernacle as a safeguard against profanation, SCR first emphasizes that the precept is grave and that neither may the bishop dispense from it nor may appeal be made to derogate from the precept by any “century-old or immemorial custom.” The precept excepts the already-mentioned case of approved instances, for grave cause, of keeping the MBS in an even safer-place. SCR highlights that this immovability & thorough closure is the “first measure” for the safe-keeping of the MBS. It describes thorough closure as “absolute and complete” by demanding the tabernacle be made according to the liturgical laws of solid and strong material such as wood, marble or metal with the emphasis that, of the three, metal is the strongest.
